Lake Co. fire at 7,000 acres; some evacuations lifted

LAKE COUNTY, CA - Fire officials say crews have wildfire burning on both sides of Highway 20 is 30 percent contained as of Tuesday morning.

The Wye and Walker fires, (which are now being fought as one fire, the Wye Fire), have burned a total of 7,000 acres. They started within a few minutes of each other at Highways 20 and 53, east of Clearlake Oaks Sunday afternoon.

Two structures have been destroyed and one damaged.

Evacuations for the Spring Valley community were lifted Monday evening. It wasn't clear if mandatory evacuations continued for New Long Valley, Old Long Valley and the Wilbur Hot Springs areas.

Highway 20 remains closed between Highways 16 and 53.

No word yet on what sparked the blazes.
