PLUMAS COUNTY, CA - Drivers were warned there may be road restrictions on Highway 70 in the Feather River Canyon area Thursday as the stubborn 12-day-old Chips Fire continues to burn in Plumas National Forest.
The fire has scorched 18,681 acres and remains at 10 percent containment as crews work to halt flames on the active northeast side.
The blaze burns in very steep, rugged terrain. Federal fire officials say 1,018 firefighters have been assigned to the fire. Twenty-five homes remained threatened.
Travelers should check Highway 70 conditions regularly (800-427-ROAD or www.dot.ca.gov and expect delays.
