ANGELS CAMP, CA - An Angels Camp man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of manslaughter after a man police say he had a fight with died of his injuries.

Angels Camp Police Chief Todd Fordahl said Samual Steele, 39, the suspect, and Michael Elliott had been drinking in a local bar the night of July 23. The two began arguing and went outside. The disagreement escalated into a physical fight near the block of 1200 block of S. Main Street.

At some point, Fordahl said Steele pushed Elliott who fell to the ground and hit his head.

Fordahl said Steele knew Elliott was hurt and moved him inside of a nearby apartment complex.

A passing patrol officer was flagged down and paramedics were called.

Fordahl said Elliott was first transported to Mark Twain. St. Joseph Hospital and then flown by air ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center. Fordahl said Elliott died of his injuries on July 28.
