SACRAMENTO, CA - The U.S. Department of Defense says a Redding soldier died from injuries he suffered when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Khakrez, Afghanistan where he served.
Sean R. Jacobs, 23, held the rank of 1st lieutenant. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
The incident took place last Thursday.
Friday, Spc. Benjamin C. Pleitez, 25, from Turlock died in Mazar E Sharif, Afghanistan.
A California National Guardsman, Pleitez was assigned to the 1072nd Transportation Company, 746th Combat Support Battalion, 224th Sustainment Brigade, Van Nuys.
