ROSEVILLE, CA - Rescuers are trying to retrieve a feral kitten lodged about 12 feet down a storm drain.

A SureWest employee heard the kitten's cries about behind the telecommunications company's building at 8150 Industrial Boulevard about 7 a.m.

Good Samaritans have trying to rescue the kitty since then.

Animal Control officers arrived and may shoot a blank at one end of the sewer system to try to scare the kitten forward where he can be snagged.

Animal Control said they would stay on scene until 5 p.m. and if they hadn't been able to rescue the kitty by then, they would put a long robe down the hole in the hope the kitten will climb up it and free itself.
