RANCHO CORDOVA, CA - A team of Sacramento police officers and sheriff's deputies evacuated residents on Cochise Court in Rancho Cordova Thursday morning after receiving a call of shots fired in the neighborhood.

Police officers responded to the area around 4:15 a.m. and determined that nobody had been hit by gunfire. An ensuing investigation of the area revealed a man, armed with a rifle, was sitting in the backyard of a home, according to officers on scene.

Authorities evacuated all residents on the block, then used a megaphone to establish contact with the man. After apparently being able to reason with him, the man went into his home and called police on the phone.

Officers were able to convince the man to exit the home peacefully, and he was arrested at the scene, according to authorities on scene.

No information was provided on the man's identity or why he was sitting in the yard with a rifle.
