SACRAMENTO - A woman was shot and killed Wednesday morning during a confrontation on the 7900 block of Loucreta Drive in south Sacramento.
Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos said deputies responded to the scene around 3:22 a.m. and discovered a woman in her 30s, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and transported the woman to a nearby hospital where she died of her injuries several hours later.
A man who was with the woman at the time of the shooting was detained and questioned by deputies. During questioning, the man indicated that he and the woman were outside when another man and woman came out of a residence and a confrontation ensued. During the confrontation, the woman who had just exited the house shot the other woman, then ran back into the property with her companion, said Ramos.
The victim's companion then ran into a nearby home and called for help.
Moments later, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle leaving the home to which the suspected shooter and her companion had fled. It was not known whether or not the involved individuals were inside the vehicle, said Ramos.
The suspected shooter was only described as a black woman. No description of the vehicle was provided.
