ANGELS CAMP, CA - Things got heated on an Angels Camp golf course Friday evening with one man accused of striking another twice with his golf club.
Robert E. Rappleye Jr., 61, was arrested and booked into Calaveras County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, said Angels Camp Police Chief Todd Fordahl.
According to the police report, the victim came up to Rappleye when Rappleye and the golfers he was playing with became upset at the group playing ahead of them which included the victim's wife. A witness told responding officers the victim was upset at the language and attitude directed at his wife.
During heated words between Rappleye and victim on the 18th tee, Rappleye allegedly took out a golf club and struck the victim on the left arm and on his back when the latter turned away, Fordahl said. The victim was left cut and bleeding.
Fordahl said another witness said told officers when he tried to intervene, Rappleye, still wielding the golf club, threatened him.
The victim was treated by paramedics called to the scene.
