MURPHYS, CA - An Angels Camp man has been accused of trying to run down two people with his vehicle Monday evening.
The two, Kenneth Peterson of Murphys and a girl, were not hurt.
According to Calaveras County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Chris Hewitt, Peterson and the suspect, Glenn Johnson, 48, had met on the shoulder of Highway 4 and Tanner Street in Murphys to discuss Peterson's request that Johnson remove his cattle from his property on the 400 block of East Highway 4. The discussion evolved into a fistfight between the two men, the participants confirmed. At some point, witnesses said Johnson got in his vehicle, backed up and drove toward Peterson and the girl.
Hewitt said Peterson avoided being hit by jumping over a fence and the girl got behind a telephone pole.
Johnson left the scene.
Responding deputies went to Johnson's residence and caught him as he ran toward an elementary school, Hewitt said.
Johnson was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.
