SONOMA, COUNTY, CA (BCN) -The driver of a car that veered off state Highway 1 and went down a ravine on the Sonoma County coast north of Jenner on Sunday is in critical condition today at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Katy Hillenmeyer said.

Marcus Pace, 48, of North Highlands, was driving a 1991 Porsche 964 north on Highway 1 south of Kruse Ranch Road when the accident happened around 6:30 p.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

Pace was driving at an unsafe speed, and the Porsche ran off the west side of the road, overturned and traveled 40 feet down a ravine, Sloat said.

Pace was extricated from the car and may have suffered head and spine injuries, Sloat said. He was flown by REACH helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
