Mail truck stolen and crashed in Stockton

STOCKTON, CA- Stockton police say a man stole a mail truck Saturday afternoon and then crashed it a short distance away.

In a news release sent to News10, the Stockton Police Department said a mail carrier was delivering in the area of 500 South Grant Street around 3:30 Saturday when a man jumped into the mail truck and took off.

The man who stole the truck, later identified as 33-year-old Nathan Lucero, crashed about four blocks away and then fled the scene. 

Lucero was taken into custody shortly after and now faces charges of vehicle theft and other traffic violations.  Police say a blue bag of mail was also missing from the stolen truck.
