HAPPY VALLEY, CA - Residents evacuated from their homes Thursday may soon be allowed back. Firefighters appear to be gaining the upperhand on the Dale Fire, burning southeast of Redding.
Fire officials ordered mandatory evacuations of eighty homes while a 1,200-acre grass fire burned in Happy Valley.
Fiver homes were damaged and two buildings were destroyed. Evacuations included homes on Homes on Diggins Way, Clear Creek Road, Honeybee Road, Whispering Canyon Drive, Cloverdale Road and Oak Street, a Cal Fire representative said.
Cal Fire determined the fire started 10 feet away from a power pole on Cloverdale Road, just before 2 P.M. on Thursday.
An evacuation center and fire mobilization spot opened up at Shasta High School on Eureka Way in Redding.
CalFire spokesman Mike Witesman says he doesn't expect the blaze to grow much larger and some evacuees may soon be allowed to return to their homes.
