TURLOCK, CA - A nearly 3 and half hour standoff ended after deputies found William Paul Nazar, 44, dead on the property of his Turlock home.
Deputies responded to East Avenue and Verduga Road Wednesday around 3 p.m. after the suspect's family called deputies because he was making suicidal threats, Deputy Raj Singh said.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the man fired shots at them, but did not injure anyone. Singh said deputies returned fire, but are unsure if they hit the man.
The man retreated back into the home, where he may have had a high powered rifle and other weapons inside with him.
Deputies set up a perimeter around the home and blocked off several streets nearby.
Singh said the family left the home after shot were fired and safely made it to the deputies' perimeter line.
When deputies went into the home they found the man dead. It is unclear if he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or from being shot by deputies, Singh said.
SWAT left the scene around 6:30 p.m. Detectives took over processing the scene.
