VALLEJO, CA - A search for a robbery suspect in Vallejo ended Saturday morning with one man dead.

According to Lieutenant Jim O'Connell with the Vallejo Police Department, officers arrived on the scene of an attempted robbery on Wilson Avenue. They were told by witnesses that the white, 20-year-old male suspect had fled the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee.

O'Connell said that the vehicle was found approximately a half-hour later and the suspect then fled on foot.

Officers were notified by at least one witness that the suspect was in possession of a handgun. O'Connell said when the suspect was located by officers he was ordered to raise his hands.

According to O'Connell he refused the order and pointed a handgun at the officers.  Multiple members of the Vallejo PD fired at the suspect in self defense and struck him several times.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being investigated by the Solano County District Attorney's Office and the Vallejo Police Department, in accordance with established protocol.

The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is being conducted.

The suspect has not been identified.
