SACRAMENTO, CA -  The 21-year-old swim coach caught in a sex sting at a local hotel will not be released on bail based on the argument that he poses a continuing risk to the community.

Eric Johnston's court-appointed attorney didn't even bother asking for bail at a brief hearing Friday afternoon.

Johnston was arrested Monday at the Holiday Inn in Rancho Cordova as he headed to a room where he thought he would be having sex with one or more children, according to the complaint.

The meeting was arranged by a Sacramento County sheriff's detective posing as the father of the two fictitious children.

Johnston had been a coach with the Folsom Sea Otters swim team for three years.

Folsom police spokesman Jason Browning said there's no evidence so far that any members of the swim team were ever molested.

Prior to the bail hearing Johnston's attorney, Jan Karowsky, filed a memorandum with the court seeking bail based on Johnston's strong family ties to the Sacramento area and lack of prior criminal history.

But Karowsky acknowledged the greater challenge to Johnston's release appeared to be the contention by the prosecuting attorney that Johnston poses a risk to the community because of his active role in seeking sex with minors.

When asked by Magistrate Gregory Hollows if he had anything to say at the bail hearing, Karowsky replied "let's just save everyone's time and (withdraw the request)."

Johnston is scheduled to return to court July 3 for a preliminary hearing.
