CERES, CA - A Turlock man was lucky a certain Ceres police officer answered a call for assistance at a local restaurant recently.
The man, Dwayne Reichert, 46, is homeless and had gone to the Ceres Denny's on Herndon Road for a bite to eat. After ordering his meal, Ceres police Sgt. Jose Berber said Reichert realized he didn't have his wallet or money on him to pay for it. Restaurant staff called police and Officer Bryan Ferreira showed up.
Berber said Ferreira realized that Reichert has memory loss, was simply hungry and felt he shouldn't be taken to jail. Instead, Ferreira and the restaurant manager agreed to split the cost of Reichert's meal.
Ferreira then took Reichert to a Turlock mission shelter so that he had a place to sleep that night, Berber said.
