STOCKTON, CA - Two men are in custody and charged with two gold chain robberies that happened Sunday in South Stockton.
Since March, 77 reports have come in of people having gold chains literally ripped from their necks. Police believe the high price of gold makes it attractive for thieves to sell the chains to pawn shops or flea markets. The victims range from five to 78.
Rayshawn Fryman, 23, and Jerrell Williams, 22, are charged with robbery and possession of stolen property. They were quickly arrested after one of the robberies Sunday because police were given a good description of their vehicle.
Officer Joe Silva said the Stockton Police Department's new approach to staffing is why the car was located.
"With the luxury of having the new community response team, that's their job, to be proactive where there's high crime," Silva said. "They were able to get in the neighborhood immediately, and be on the lookout for the suspect and the suspect vehicle."
