NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA - The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department was involved in a shooting early Saturday morning in North Highlands.
According to department spokesman Jason Ramos the shooting happened about 6:15 a.m. It happened on Hutchins Drive, which is between Watt Avenue and Walerga Road, south of Antelope Road.
Ramos said the victim, Timothy Michael, 21, of North Highlands, died at the scene.
Ramos said Michael matched the description of a suspect in three gas station robberies that happened early Saturday morning.
Ramos said deputies spotted Michael on a motorcycle, and attempted to pull him over. He attempted to flee, and at one point Ramos said, his motorcycle collided with a sheriff's patrol car. Michael attempted to run, dropping a cash drawer from one of the suspected robberies.
While Michael fled the scene, he turned towards officers with his hands near his waist, according to Ramos; deputies, feared Michael had a gun, so they shot and killed him.
However, upon examination, Ramos reported that Michael did not have a weapon.
