WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - A shooting at a West Sacramento business turned into an extensive police pursuit and search for an armed man suspected of shooting at police officers  Friday morning.

According to West Sacramento police reports, three employees were shot at when they walked in on at least one intruder at B&R Head and Block Repair on Harbor Boulevard around 6 a.m.

The employees said they called out to the shadowy figure, "Who's there?" and the individual shot at them three times.  They took cover behind a piece of machinery then ran for the exit.  While fleeing the building, the employees said they were shot at again.  All three managed to escape the building uninjured.

Police said they recovered an empty rifle case inside the automotive machine shop.

Shortly thereafter, a woman was carjacked in the immediate area, according to West Sacramento police Sgt. Steele. The woman was approached by a white man in his 20s with medium-length hair, wearing a dark-colored trench coat who demanded her vehicle at gunpoint.

Steele said the individual who committed the carjacking was possibly the person suspected of shooting at the employees due to the proximity of the two incidents.

Minutes later, officers located the suspected carjacker in the stolen car and gave chase.  During the pursuit, the man shot at police before crashing his vehicle at Enterprise Boulevard, getting out of the car and fleeing on foot through traffic, according to police reports.

Police reports indicated the man then ran from the Yolo Causeway into an open area between the Enterprise exit and the city of Davis.

That is where the same man might have stolen a green John Deere tractor and driven it to County Road 127 and Old River Road before possibly carjacking a third vehicle in the area. Police have not confirmed it was the same man in each instance but witness descriptions were very similar.

Both directions of Interstate 80 between Davis and West Sacramento were shutdown as officers searched for the carjacking gunman. The freeway was reopened at 12:23 p.m. Traffic was slow due to the long back-up.

Around 7:30 a.m., West Sacramento police called for SWAT reinforcements to investigate the machine shop to determine whether there was another intruder remaining in the building.
