PASKENTA, CA - A minimum-security inmate who escaped from Salt Creek Conservation Camp near Paskenta, California sometime Sunday evening was captured at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.

California Corrections public information officer Margaret Pieper said 28-year-old Tou Yeng Thao was last seen at the camp near around 5:15 p.m. before disappearing on Sunday.

Continued search and apprehension efforts yielded Thao's capture in Chico Monday morning when he was taken into custody, medically cleared and transported to the California Correctional Center in Susanville, California without incident, said Pieper.

According to Pieper, Thao was serving a state prison sentence for Possession of a Firearm by an Ex-Felon from Butte County and was scheduled to be paroled in November 2012.

The escape will be referred to the Tehama County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
