MODESTO, CA - A couple of suspects allegedly shot from their car at a home in Modesto Monday evening, right in front of a police officer.
The drive-by shooting on the 800 block of Sutter Avenue, at about 6 p.m., tripped off a short police pursuit, said Modesto police spokesman Lt. Rick Armendariz. Two individuals in the pursued car stopped on the 900 block of Rouse Avenue and ran, Armendariz said.
Additional Modesto, Ceres and California Highway Patrol officers, Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies, canine teams, a police SWAT unit as well as the sheriff's department helicopter joined the search for the two armed individuals, Armendariz said.
The car's passenger, Daniel Ramirez, 19, was found in the 700 block of Roselawn Avenue and taken into custody.
Officers caught up with the car's driver, a 17 year old, when they surrounded his father's home on the 900 block of Rouse Avenue. The teen was arrested without incident and his father Greg Moody, 38, was arrested when he was seen by officers wiping fingerprints from a gun, Armendariz said. It was believed the weapon was used in the driveby.
A fourth person, Vanessa McDougall, 20, at Ramirez's home at another address on the 700 block of Roselawn Avenue, was arrested on drug and firearms violations. Armendariz said officers found enough marijuana for sales and an AK-47 assault rifle in her possession.
The 17 year old was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, evading police, and minor possession of a firearm.
Ramirez faces booking charges of negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of stolen property.
Moody is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm and parole violations, Armendariz said.
No one in the driveby shooting was hurt. Investigators have not uncovered why the suspects allegedly targeted the residence.
