YUBA CITY, CA - Two women were killed, and a third injured after a man shot them in a Yuba City home Tuesday around 4:30 p.m.
The two victims were identified by the county coroner on Wednesday as Janis Lyn Willams, 58, of Yuba City and Kimberly Ann Yancey, 53, of Yuba City. The suspected gunman was identified as Steven George Williams, 53, of Yuba City.
Stephen Williams, who was in a home on the 600 block on B Street, shot the three victims, ran out of the home with the handgun, then ran two blocks before police caught up with him.
"Our officers pursued him. At some point during the pursuit our officers did shoot and kill the suspect," Yuba City police spokesperson Shawna Pavey said.
The third victim who was also shot with a handgun is in critical condition at Rideout Hospital in Marysville.
Neighbors said there were children in the home during the shooting.
A woman who gave only her first name of Connie said her 8-year-old grandson ran out the back door when the shots were fired.
"He was just, 'They shot granny, they shot grandmother, my Nana,"" Connie said, adding, "It's my grandson's other grandmother that got killed her and her best friend."
Neighbor Sarah Garrett said police kept residents outside of their homes as the investigation continued into Tuesday night.
"We were sitting in our house watching TV when we heard a bunch of sirens then about five or six gunshots in a row right outside the house," Garrett said. "When we looked outside there were cops everywhere and the guy was laying on the ground."
Garrett said police have also blocked off Franklin Road, Percy Avenue and B Street.
Police have not released any other details about the shooting.
Pavey said investigators may release more information about a possible motive and the shooter's relationship to the victims sometime on Wednesday.
