DIXON, CA - A call of a home invasion and hostage situation on Carpenter Court in Dixon Wednesday morning, turned out to be nothing more than a hoax, according to Dixon Police Chief John Cox.

A team of Dixon officers, SWAT members, a hostage negotiator, fire personnel, and a medical helicopter were all deployed to the scene following a report of a woman inside the home being shot and held hostage at gunpoint, Cox said.

A perimeter was set up around the area of Carpenter Ct. for about an hour to the negotiate the woman's release.

However, a call made by police to the homeowner during the incident revealed there was no gunman inside the home and nobody had been shot, said Cox.  This along with other inconsistencies in the emergency call, led officers to question the validity of the claim, which was revealed a hoax when officers entered the home.

During a post-incident interview, Cox said authorities believed the prank was made by a person who knew the family at the residence, as they provided personal details to officers during the initial call.

Officers will investigate the incident to discover and prosecute whoever made the prank call.
