Drawing of suspect vehicle most likely connected to the shooting of two Sikh men

ELK GROVE, CA - Almost one year after two Sikh men were shot on the northern border of Elk Grove, detectives are asking for help to identify a truck they believe the shooter was driving.

It happened in March of 2011 at the Park 'n Ride on Stockton Boulevard. Gurmej Atawl and Surinder Singh were on a nightly walk when someone randomly shot and killed them.

Many believe it was a hate crime.

Wednesday afternoon, detectives handed out a computer-made image of a pickup truck they believe is connected to the shooting

A video camera recorded the pickup not far from the scene, but the quality is so poor they have a limited description.

It's a tan or gold pickup, lifted with a standard cab.

Detectives are hoping it jogs someone's memory.

"I think that there are other people who may have seen this vehicle in the area," said Kevin Papineau, the lead detective on the case. "I know beyond a doubt that whoever did this has told somebody. Or somebody that's close to them knows they did it."

"I hope that they day will come when the suspect is apprehended," Atwal's son said. "You can run but you cannot hide."

Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous tip line at (916) 627-3333.

A $57,000 reward is available if the information leads to an arrest. The Elk Grove police department has applied for the Governor's Award, which could raise the reward to $107,000.
