SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento City Councilmember Sandy Sheedy, who's not running for re-election, wants Sacramento City voters to decide on how to pay for a new arena.

She is proposing that a measure be put on the June ballot. The measure would let voters decide whether a new downtown sports arena should be funded with public parking assets.

Sacramento City Council will debate and decide during Tuesday's city council meeting on whether to put the measure on the June ballot.

The city already has a March 1 deadline to deliver a funding plan to the NBA. If there's no plan, the NBA said it would allow the Kings owners to consider moving the franchise.

The current proposed plan includes leasing the city-owned parking garages and parking spaces to a private vendor.

So far, the city has a list of 13 interested companies. Officials plan on narrowing down that list to the most qualified companies by Feb. 14.

After that, the city will request formal proposals and then the remaining companies will begin bidding.
