SACRAMENTO, CA - A 1-month-old baby boy was left in a car seat along Watt Avenue Friday afternoon.

A passerby reported seeing the child to the California Highway Patrol on the side of Watt outside of a shuttered restaurant across from Motel 6 and by Interstate 80.

Officers arrested the infant's grandmother Kit Samuel, 54, after she came from the motel.

Samuel told the officers she left her grandson by the road because she had to pick up her belongings at the motel, where she had been evicted, CHP Officer Lizz Dutton said.

The infant will be placed with Child Protective Services and the case has been taken over by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, Dutton said.

Deputy Jason Ramos said Samuel was booked into Sacramento County Jail for one felony charge of child endangerment and one misdemeanor count of public intoxication.

Samuel's bail is set at $60,000.

Witnesses told the CHP the baby appeared to have been left alone for 45 minutes, Ramos said.
