2 Alarm fire Friday night in downtown Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento City Fire Department responded to a 2 alarm fire in downtown Sacramento just before midnight Friday.

According to Battalion Chief Marc Bentovoja, the fire occurred in the basement of a thrift store at the 1000 block of 10th Street.

The basement was full of clothes which were on fire. The fire did not appear to be suspicious.The fire department cannot rule out possible electrical problems.

The clothes ignited and an employee called 911.

Though the fire was contained in the basement by the sprinkler system, smoke traveled to the upper three floors, including the Golden Hotel.

Fire units were on the scene for three hours.

People were evacuated, and no one was injured.
