WOODLAND, CA - A man portraying to be a buyer on Craigslist has been found guilty of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with an iPhone transaction in Davis.

Yolo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Raven said Calvin Tommy Johnson, 27, of Vallejo, arranged a meeting with the seller of the phone  for Sept. 26, 2010 in Davis. When the two met in a shopping center and the seller handed the phone to Johnson, Johnson went to his car on the pretense of getting money to pay the buyer,  Instead he told the driver to leave.

According to court testimony, the seller tried to grab the iPhone from Johnson and was dragged alongside the car a short distance before the car sped off. The iPhone owner suffered significant injuries.

Johnson tossed the iPhone out the car window, destroying it, Raven said.

Law enforcement caught up with Johnson six months later by monitoring emails between the victim and him.

Raven says Johnson faces up to six years in prison when he is sentenced March 2 in Yolo County Superior Court.
