STOCKTON, CA - A man was shot to death in a parking lot in south Stockton Friday morning.

An Hispanic man in his 50s was shot in the head in a drive-by shooting around 9 a.m. along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in front of a Payless Shoe Source, according to a Stockton police source said.

Witnesses said the gunshot was fired from a vehicle with several people inside. The driver was female and there were males in the backseat. It was believed the shooter was male.

Stockton police were looking for a small silver car, thought to be connected to the shooting.

Offier Pete Smith said the homicide was the fifth of the New Year; that puts the city on pace to match last year's record setting 58 homicides.
