SACRAMENTO, CA - California's winter dry spell is about to end which means home owners need to get out their ladders and clean their gutters before the rain and wind come to Northern California in the next few days.

Gutters clogged with leaves can mean trouble when the rain comes and has nowhere to drain, trapping it on the roof and in walls. Over time, this can lead to dry rot, a dangerous and expensive problem. For most homes, it costs a few hundred dollars to have a professional clean the gutters, but fixing dry rot can cost thousands of dollars.

Chris Vargas of Master Shield Gutter Protection, says installing gutter guards will keep your gutters clear of debris and you off the roof.

Gutter guards cost around $2,000-$3,000 for most homes, but according to Vargas, come with a lifetime warranty. Vargas says it's important when installing any gutter guard to slant the product with the slope of the roof.

"When you meet the same pitch as the roof, when the debris comes off the roof it's allowed to go to the ground where it belongs." Vargas said.
