SACRAMENTO, CA - News10 said goodbye to veteran reporter Karen Massie on Friday.
Karen worked for News10 for more than 25 years. She came aboard as the weekend anchor with George Warren.
Karen covered many stories with the station.
"My most memorable one is when they started shooting at me at the L.A. riots," Karen said.
She was the education reporter for News10 and was honored with several awards for a series of reports about race and education.
"Off-camera, teachers would talk about this issue, but getting them to talk about the issue on-camera was very difficult because they were afraid of being racist," Karen said. "I talked to students about getting grief for speaking properly or asking the teacher for extra help, but I was able to talk to them. We were finally able to get the hurtful feelings and the peer pressure on-camera. I was real proud to do that. "
Karen thanks Franklin High School in Elk Grove and its administrators for allowing cameras.
Karen plans to stay in Sacramento area and will be working on CD projects including producing her niece Jessica Massie's first CD. Massie enjoys singing and entertained the News10 staff with a "good-bye" song at her farewell.
