SACRAMENTO, CA - A 26-year-old woman was killed in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area Monday night when she was hit by an SUV on Fulton Avenue.
Officer Lizz Dutton of the California Highway Patrol said a 60-year-old woman driving a red Chevy Equinox was traveling northbound on Fulton just north of Northrop Avenue around 9:02 p.m. when the victim, dressed in dark clothing, darted out in front of her vehicle.
Tuesday, the Sacramento County Coroner's Office released the name of the pedestrian. She was Rachael Renee Willard and she lived in Carmichael.
According to Dutton, the driver of the Equinox was traveling at about 35 mph but still did not have enough time to react and avoid hitting Willard. The driver was not cited.
Willard was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries, said Dutton.
CHP officers were investigating the accident and believe the victim may have been intoxicated.
