SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento police investigators have a number of questions about a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian accident Monday night.

Officer Laura Peck says the Sacramento Fire Department was called to 19th and S streets at 9:43 p.m. to respond to a man lying in the street.

The man, later identified as 33-year-old Thomas Francis Dennis Ferguson of Sacramento, was found with serious injuries that appeared to be the result of being struck by a vehicle, Peck said. Ferguson was transported to an area hospital but did not survive.

Police don't know exactly where the victim was hit. He was found on 19th Street just south of S Street, Peck said, and may have been struck by a vehicle traveling south on 19th Street.

Evidence suggests the involved vehicle may be a 1992-2002 Chevy or GMC full-size SUV or pick-up with damage to the grill, reflector and front right side. Peck said.

Anyone walking, driving or riding a bike in the area about 9:40 Monday night was asked to contact the police department's Det. Bryon Schrum at (916) 808-6032 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
