SACRAMENTO, CA - A suspect arrested for felony charges died in police custody Saturday around 11:33 p.m.

The suspect was being transported when officers noticed that he was unresponsive, Sacramento Police Officer Laura Peck said.

The officers stopped at Franklin Boulevard and Fruitridge Road to administer CPR and called for medical assistance, Peck said.

The Sacramento Fire Department transported the suspect to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Peck said the suspect's death was not the result for police actions.

The suspect's identity is not being released until next of kin are notified by the coroner's office.

Sacramento police homicide, internal affairs and crime scene investigators are working with the office of public safety and accountability and the district attorney's office to investigate the suspect's death.
