STOCKTON, CA - The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department released the identity of the man who was shot and killed by a deputy Tuesday.

Kevin James Jackson, 47, was a parolee-at-large out of Arizona, San Joaquin Sheriff's Department spokesman Les Garcia said. Jackson failed to report to his parole officer after getting out of prison.

Jackson tried to flee from deputies by carjacking a truck. When a deputy tried to stop him by getting hold of the truck, he sped up. Garcia said the deputy fired a shot at the suspect then dropped to the ground.

According to Garcia, Jackson had an extensive criminal history in both Arizona and California.

Deputies arrested Ashley Marie Cartwright at the scene of the shooting. Cartwright was booked into San Joaquin County Jail for theft and possession of stolen property.

Investigators are looking into other crimes in Stanislaus County and Reno Nevada, that may be connected to Jackson and Cartwright.
