ROSEVILLE, CA - Firefighters have a large house fire in west Roseville under control.

The flames sent gray smoke over the area Tuesday morning.

The home is in the area of Diamond Oaks Road and Glenview Circle.

Roseville Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeff Carman said a resident was home and discovered the fire was already well- involved by the time he realized it. The resident escaped safely.

Flames poured out of the back of the home, sparking brush behind the property and prompting the fire department to call in mutual aid.

It appeared the entire interior of the home was on fire.

Jeff Carman said the fire started from a natural gas source. He said the fire was fed by a natural gas line that ran to a barbecue on the deck. A leak caused the fire to progress quickly and by the time firefighters arrived, the house was filled with flames.

Carman said fire investigators were determining whether the leaking pipe was caused by the fire or led to the fire igniting.

Damage was estimated at $500,000.
