SACRAMENTO, CA - Why are Sacramento raccoons on the attack? No one really knows.
On Tuesday, two raccoons attacked a woman and her two dogs as they were walking on 21st Street in midtown. One of the dogs suffered major injuries; his owner had several cuts.

Animal control shot and killed the animals, which had run up a tree.
"I have never seen anything like it," Sacramento Animal Control spokeswoman Gina Knepp said.
The dead raccoons were being tested for rabies.
Knep said she noticed more and more raccoons adapting to urban environments and becoming territorial.

"People need to be careful when they walk their dogs and don't leave pet food outside during the day or at night," Knepp said.
Knepp said raccoons are reportedly acting strangely in other states, including Washington and parts of Canada.
Some of those raccoons had rabies.
