MANTECA,CA - Two men were arraigned in Manteca Superior Court Wednesday, accused of being members of an Armenian gang that steals money by placing skimming devices on ATM machines.
Sergey Yasayan and Edgar Vasilyan faced numerous felony counts, after being caught on surveillance video attaching the devices to an ATM machine by a bank employee.
The bank worker notified the Tracy Police Department which sent officers to stake out the bank in an unmarked car. Yasayan and Vasilyan were arrested when they returned to the bank.
"It's not going to be tolerated in this county" said San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Stephen Taylor. "It's a conspiracy and it takes an army of people and a lot of equipment, it's a huge operation. It's a conspiracy.", said Taylor
Judge Ron A. Northup set bail at $2 million each. Their attorney said the bail amount was "too high" but Taylor disagreed, saying the pair are a flight risk.
