Crews battle vegetation fire in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CA - Firefighters battle an 8-alarm vegetation fire about two miles from Highway 80.

The fire was fires reported around shortly before 6p.m. near Torrington Way and Mystic Drive in northeast Fairfield. By 6:10 p.m. the fire grew into a 6-alarm fire.

The fire is burning uphill, away from a subdivision in the area and the freeway and into unincorporated area. It is putting out a lot of smoke, which can be seen miles away.

About 80 to 100 firefighters, from across Solano County, have been called to assist Fairfield crews in fighting the fire.

A few homes along the hillside were evacuated as the fire threatened the area.    

There have been no reports of injuries nor the cause of the fire.

Update at 7:30pm - The fire has now burned 80-90 acres.

Update at 8:30pm - The fire has now burned 500 acres and reached 8 alarms.

Update at 9:30pm - 700 acres burned.
