MANTECA, CA - A shooting in broad daylight left one man dead and another wounded in Manteca Monday evening.

According to Deputy Les Garcia with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, the victims were outside of a business standing by or sitting on two motorcycles on the 17000 block of Ideal Parkway about 6:30 p.m. when a white compact SUV sped toward them, hitting one of the bikes. Two men got out of the SUV and began pummeling 26-year-old Danny Martinez and a 30-year-old man. One of the attackers got a handgun from the SUV and started shooting at Martinez and the other man. Then the men got back in the SUV and drove away.

Martinez, who was from Lathrop, was shot in the upper body, Garcia said. Paramedics pronounced Martinez dead at the scene.

The other man was transported to a local hospital for surgery for a gunshot wound. Garcia said he was expected to survive.

Witnesses had no other description of the confrontation other than to say the two attackers were white.

Homicide detectives haven't determined why Martiniez and the other man were shot.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office at (209) 468- 4400 or text a tip to 274637 and in the message area type SJSO, a space, and then the tip.
