MANTECA, CA - San Joaquin County sheriffs responded to a call of shots fired in the 1700 block of Ideal Parkway in Manteca on Monday night and found one man fatally shot and another wounded.
According to a press release issued by the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, deputies found 26-year-old Danny Martinez of Lathrop unresponsive and bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics arrived on scene where they pronounced Martinez dead.
The second victim, a 30-year-old man, was found a short distance from Martinez suffering a gunshot wound and having difficulty breathing. The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery for the wound and is expected to survive.
Witnesses said they saw the victims standing beside two motorcycles outside a local business when two white men driving an SUV sped through the parking lot, hit a motorcycle, then jumped out of the vehicle and began beating Martinez and the other man. During the assault, one of the men returned to the SUV, retrieved a handgun and started firing shots at the two victims before fleeing the scene said witnesses.
San Joaquin sheriffs said there is no other information available on the men in the SUV and no motive was determined.
