PULGA, CA - The Butte County Sheriff's Office busted a marijuana grow operation near the Cresta Power House on Highway 70.
The marijuana garden was found in June after a routine aerial flight over the area, Sgt. Marty Rolph said.
Deputies arrested one suspect, Humberto Lepe-Cervantes, 25, of Jalisco, Mexico.
The sheriff's office Special Enforcement Unit worked with the United Forest Service to enter the garden undetected, Rolph said. Deputies found Lepe-Cervantes in the upper growing area.
Rolph said when a deputy tried to arrest Lepe-Cervantes, he tried to grab the deputy's gun. The deputy was able to subdue the suspect and handcuff him.
Deputies found 6,018 mature marijuana plants and 550 pounds of processed marijuana, Rolph said.
Rolph said deputies also found camp sites, a kitchen area, two marijuana processing areas with a scale, packaging material and drying racks.
Rolph said Lepe-Cervantes was booked into Butte County Jail for growing marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and resisting an officer.
