CARMICHAEL, CA - Sacramento County sheriff's deputies discovered a man in his 50s, fatally shot in the abdomen at his Carmichael apartment around 12:15 Friday morning.

Deputy Jason Ramos said the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

According to Ramos, deputies contacted a man who had been at the apartment when the shooting occurred. The witness said two men knocked on the door before forcing their way inside.

The witness said he was detained by one intruder while the other confronted the victim in a separate room. The witness proclaimed he heard a gunshot from the other room and then the two suspects ran from the apartment. Ramos says the witness told deputies he chased the two men, but was unable to catch them and upon returning to the unit, discovered the victim had been shot.
