FOLSOM, CA - A 6-month-old puppy found left in a hot car Wednesday died, and the dog's owner has been arrested for felony animal cruelty, say Folsom police.

Officer Sharon Blackburn said Gizmo, a 6-month-old Pomeranian/Shih Tzy mix, was discovered lying on the floor of the back seat of a Honda in the Winco shopping parking lot on Blue Ravine Road just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. Responding officers reported the dog was panting heavily in the car, where the temperature was 93 degrees. The car's windows were rolled down about 2 inches. Officers said there was no water for dog.

Officers took Gizmo to a local veterinary hospital but during the night he died, Blackburn said.

Blackburn said Gizmo had been in the parked car at least 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours.

Gizmo's owner, TiAndra Davis, 21, of Rancho Cordova was taken into custody Thursday and booked into Sacramento County Jail on $10,000 bail.
