SACRAMENTO, CA -- Friday, June 3 is National Doughnut Day and the Salvation Army and doughnut shops are celebrating by handing out free doughnuts at several locations in the greater Sacramento area.
Douhgnut Day was originally created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. Prior to The Salvation Army popularizing the doughnut, it was an unknown treat.
In exchange for a canned food donation, The Salvation Army will be giving away free doughnuts at three locations from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
