COLFAX, CA - A landslide at a canyon near Colfax caused a break in the sidewall of Bear River Canal early Tuesday morning.
The break diverted water down a steep hill and into the Bear River.

PG&E hydro-operators stopped water flow after water level alarms downstream went off. Officials are assessing ways to begin repairs to the canal.
The Bear River Canal delivers water from Rollins Lake to Folsom Lake. Along the way it generates hydo-electric power and delivers water to Placer County Water Agency and Nevada Irrigation District.
