RANCHO CORDOVA, CA - The list of California's top delinquent taxpayers includes celebrities and an Elk Grove man.
The Franchise Tax Board (FTB) published the list last week showing the state's 250 biggest debtors owe a combined $193,411,700.59.
"We've put out the list of the top 250 tax delinquents since 2007," said FTB spokesman John Barrett. "This year (the amount owed) ranges from $300,000 to almost $15 million."
At the top of the list are CNET founder Halsey Minor and his wife Shannon, who owe $14,247,341.09.
Actress Pamela Anderson was 91st on the list. FTB said she owes $607,866.88.
In the 46th spot, Gary Gomez, an Elk Grove man, who apparently owes the most in the Sacramento area. He is behind on his state taxes by $1,034,792.54.
Records show Gomez, a former construction firm owner, has had a history of falling behind on federal and state taxes. He's paid some of them off over the years.
Gomez wasn't at an Elk Grove home listed as his residence. A woman who answered the door said she owns the home.
The FTB has a special unit that works on collecting back taxes for the state of California.
"We have a collection computer that never sleeps," Barrett said. "It's up 24/7 continually looking for assets and if it finds them, it will seize property, bank accounts, issue wage garnishments and tax liens."
The FTB said it has collected $13 million from taxpayers who didn't want their name or company publicly posted on the debtors list.
Barrett encouraged anyone who owes the state to give the FTB a call.
"You can make arrangements for installments, offer a compromise, file for bankruptcy or you can pay us in full. You just need to do something to get your account resolved," he said.
