SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento State students protesting state budget cuts say they were forced out of the administration building Saturday morning by police wearing riot gear.

In a news release, student representative Nora Walker said university police and another group of officers entered the building around 12:30 Saturday morning. The group's police liaison, Yeimi Lopez, said she was told by campus police that new forces were needed and that they were being shown a layout of the building. Lopez added that when she later asked for some more information, she was told police could no longer give her any information.

Around 3:24 Walker said police entered the building and told the students they needed to leave or they would be arrested. The 27 students then left the building and police locked the administration building.

University Chief of Police Daniel J. Davis said in a news release that said that officers informed the group that their occupancy of the closed building was in violation of the law and again asked the group to leave. He added that the officers, dressed in protective gear, allowed the students to leave and all students did leave without incident.

The student group had been staging the sit in since Wednesday in protest over budget cuts.
