COLUSA, CA - An autopsy performed Wednesday revealed a local woman was alive during an attack by her pit bull that might have been responsible for her death.
Colusa County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Shane Maxey said the despite the autopsy results, the official cause of death won't be confirmed until a toxicology report is completed.
Linda Leal Castillo, 51, was found dead in the backyard of her home on the 100 block of Bridge Street just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Her husband Enrique Leal found her body and ran to a neighbor's house to call 911.
Investigators determined the couple's pit bull mix had attacked the woman leaving her with extensive head and neck trauma "consistent with a dog attack."
It was unclear of Leal died from injuries sustained during the dog attack or from exisiting liver cancer she was battling while alive.
The dog was euthanized by Colusa County Animal Control.
