STOCKTON, CA - A teenage girl shot and killed in southwest Stockton Thursday night was identified as 15-year-old Jessica Perez of Modesto.
Perez was struck on the 2700 block of Spring Hill Drive. Her 17-year-old boyfriend was also shot but was not seriously injured, police say.
Police said the teenagers were across the street from a party when the shots were fired. It's a neighborhood not far from Van Buskirk Golf Course.
Police spokesman Pete Smith had no information on why Perez was on a Stockton street late at night, or whether the party somehow played a role in the violence.
He said gang activity was a possible motive.
"That's something they're (detectives) looking at. It has the earmarks of gang activity and the way they carry out their aggressions against one another," said Smith.
Perez was a student at Johansen High School in Modesto.
No one has been taken into custody for the shootings.
